Japan to send relief aid to flood-hit areas

Japan will provide relief supplies to Myanmar, which has been hit by widespread flooding following weeks of heavy rains.

The government decided to send about 145,000 dollars' worth of supplies, including blankets and mattresses, through the Japan International Cooperation Agency.

The aid is in response to Myanmar's appeal for international assistance to provide temporary shelter and clothing for affected people.

The Myanmar government said on Monday that 46 people have died in the floods and mudslides. 200,000 people have fled their homes.

The heavy rains have also affected Pakistan. 118 people have died in the floods there as of Monday.

Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has told Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif that Japan is ready to provide aid upon request.
