WEST PERTH, Australia – Tap Oil expects to sign a production-sharing contract soon for the shallow-water block M-7 in the Moattama basin offshore Myanmar.
The company plans to operate the block in partnership with Smart E&P International.
The 13,000-km (8,078-mi) concession is in a gas/condensate-prone area, 160 km (99 mi) east of the 6.5-tcf Yadana gas field and 110 km (68 mi) northeast of the 1.5-tcf Zawtika field. Production in the basin is typically from stacked Miocene clastic reservoirs.
Tap has also issued an update on work programs in various permits in the Carnarvon basin offshore Western Australia newly operated by Quadrant Energy following the latter’s acquisition of Apache’s interests.
The WA-320-P and WA-155-P (Part II) exploration permits contain the Triassic fault block Palmerston prospect which straddles both permits. The partners plan to drill a commitment well.
Processing has been completed of around 310 sq km (119 sq mi) of data from TGS’ Huzzas MC3D seismic survey over WA-320-P. The partners will use the data to assess prospectivity and plan for an exploration well which will likely be drilled by 4Q 2016.
The TL/2 production license and TP/7 exploration permit are in shallow water, 40 km (25 mi) northeast of Onslow. Studies are under way on the 1991 oil discovery Taunton oil which straddles both permits to assess development options.
Additionally, Quadrant has started planning for abandonment and decommissioning of the Chervil wells, most likely in 1Q 2016.
At WA-290-P, Apache drilled the Zola gas discovery in 2011. The following year a retention lease, WA-49-R, was granted over Zola and another gas find, Antiope, for five years. Another gas discovery followed on the Bianchi structure in 2013.
Quadrant plans a new 3D seismic survey in 2016 aimed at high grading Triassic Mungaroo prospects in these permits for future drilling.
